Cutting edge safety knife design

We know the Safety Knife Company offer a fantastic range of safety knives and help prevent injuries in a wide range of working environments. But did you know that the Queen of England thinks so too?!
The Safety Knife Company was formed in 1993, having secured a patent license from Bill Ireland, a British engineer and former hedge layer. Bill had invented a knife to safely cut string on a bale of hay and decided to take his idea further. By 2014 the range had expanded to 10 different safety knives, each serving different applications, and his contributions were being noticed.
On the 17th of October in 2014, Bill was part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list and awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (or MBE for short) for Services to Innovation. He received his award from the Queen herself at an investiture held at Windsor Castle.
An MBE is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community that will have had a long-term, significant impact and stand out as an example to others. That’s pretty impressive for a man who just wanted to help people safely cut open a bale of hay!
