APPLICATION
Workplaces are bound by legislative requirements in the areas of site safety, hazardous/flammable storage, fire protection, first aid and environmental protection. This section lists the necessary product range that will assist with the ‘safe place of work’ and ‘safe system of work’ obligations of statute law.
RISK ASSESSMENT
Signage: Signs are identified in categories - mandatory (PPE), prohibition (smoking), danger (work practices that threaten life), warning (eg. hot surface), emergency (exits), fire (extinguishers) and general site safety.
Flammable Storage & Fire: Fire emergency & evacuation must be part of the initial induction processes for new employees. Review fire classes - A (ordinary combustibles), B (flammable liquids), C (flammable gases), D (combustible metals), E (electrical) and F (cooking oils & fats).
First Aid: Workplaces must satisfy the state legislative requirements for provision of suitable first aid for workers. First aid kits contents must be appropriate to injuries risk assessments in the workplace and there must be employees trained in first aid. After hours provisions are essential.
Spill Control: An appropriate spill prevention/control/response programme to comply with local regulations and environmental obligations is part of an overall environmental management system. Key aspects include the management & storage control of hazardous materials (reduce the chance of a spill), contain and minimise the spill (stop it from spreading) and absorb the spill and clean up using safe practices including appropriate disposal.
Lockout: Many workplace accidents/incidents could have been prevented by proper lockout/tagout procedures. Lockout is the use of specific devices to prevent power from being accidentally turned on during equipment maintenance or inspection. Tagout is the use of specific tags to warn workers of the danger of starting the equipment.
